Imeem is één van de grootste sociale media sites. Op Imeem delen duizenden gebruikers digitale media, zoals foto’s, video’s en muziek met elkaar.

Imeem werd opgericht in 2004 door onder meer Jan Jannink, voormalig actief bij Napster. Ook de ontwikkelaars van het oude Napster werken nu aan Imeem. De site is opgebouwd rondom een sociaal netwerk met als extra toemaatje digitale content die gedeeld kan worden, vergelijkbaar met Flickr en Youtube. Volgens de oprichters heeft Imeem meer dan 25 miljoen leden.

Imeem heeft een deal kunnen sluiten met de meeste platenfirma’s, zoals Warner Music Group Corp ( Madonna, Linkin Park and Red Hot Chili Peppers. ), Sony/BMG music, EMI en Vivendi Universal.

Gebruikers kunnen zelf tracks uploaden. Indien Imeem voor deze tracks geen deal heeft, worden ze automatisch herleid naar 30 seconden.

De muziek op Imeem is niet downloadbaar, maar wel te delen via Facebook, MySpace en andere sociale netwerken. De player, inclusief de muziek is te embedden op een eigen website.

Jango, create you own radio station

With Jango, a free social music service, you can create your own custom radio stations and share them with friends and others.

Just type in what you want to hear – and your station will play the music you want along with similar favorites of other Jango users who share your taste. You can customize your stations further by adding more artists and rating songs.

TalentTrove seeks talent

Songza music search

Another search engine that seems to find a lot of the music that is out there.

It has a simple designed interface. Just enter what artist or title you want to hear. The results can only be listened to, embedded in your blog or shared with friends. The content cannot be downloaded. Unlike Last.fm or Rhapsody, Songza permits users to choose exactly the song or artist they want to hear, and does not require them to subscribe or pay for its services.
