De site geeft een overzicht van wat andere mensen gezocht hebben en een top lijst van donwloads. De site houdt geen rekening met de legaliteit van de files die het eender waar kan vinden.
In het midden van de pagina is een kleine, maar handige, speler te vinden die een willekeurige selectie bekende mp3’s afspeelt.
Deze website uit Zweden heeft een uitgebreide database van MP3’s die op zogenaamde open directories staan. Meestal zijn dit snelle servers waar achteloze webmasters met of zonder opzet mp3 bestanden hebben achtergelaten. De vanuit Duitsland opererende site Lumerias indexeert het internet op video content. We vinden op de zoekterm “madonna” een ruime 5000 resultaten. Gevonden resultaten kunnen via Lumerias ook gedownload worden. De hoge resolutie video’s van Youtube kunnen in MP4 formaat gedownload worden.

MP3 Search.fm is weer een andere MP3 zoekmachine waar de gevonden mp3’s onmiddellijk down te loaden of rechtstreeks te beluisteren zijn. De gevonden nummers zijn ook te embedden in MySpace of op blogs via de embed functie. Naast zoeken en downloaden kan je een eigen playlist maken, chatten met andere gebruikers en neuzen doorheen de lijst van populaire downloads.

MP3 searchengines are sprouting up like a fungus all over the Internet. They are, as you are well aware, mostly based on the concept of open directories. Not entirely for Karabit. They smartly hide the real origin of the files behind a php script, so you can’t browse the other files on the originating server. (If you like to vacuum clean an open directory, I’d suggest screemr.com cause they do lead you directly to an open directory.)
